CyberMonday, Giving Tuesday & Annual Appeal

Posted 11/20/2017 6:31pm by MCFBoard.

Dear Friends,

As our eighth Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) growing season winds down at Medway Community Farm, we reflect on the journey our organization has taken and the wonderful Medway community of which we are honored to be a part.

Medway Community Farm began with a vision of healthy local food, community connections, and food education. The vision was put into action with trust from the Board of Selectmen and your votes at a Town Meeting. The Town of Medway allocated land at 50 Winthrop Street to this mission, we established a not-for-profit section 501(c)3 organization, and we were off and running in 2009. Through the generosity of our community in support of our events, purchases at our farm stand, and participation in our three seasons of CSA shares program, our mission is sustained and our community expands.

As 2017 comes to a close and you make plans for end-of-year charitable contributions, MCF invites you to make a Giving Tuesday tax-deductible donation on Nov 28th. If your plans include some Cyber Monday purchases on Nov 27th, please start at smile.amazon.com with our MCF link. Through Amazon, your purchases help MCF at no cost to you.

Each year since our inception, there are inspiring stories of the learning, hands-on experiences, and healthy eating that make both our present, and our future, brighter. Visit MCF for yourself and explore the joy of woods and fields on our sign post
self-guided walking tour. You can volunteer for seasonal hands-in-the-dirt seeding or field work and discover the vitality of fresh vegetables, perhaps some that are new to you!

Within Medway Community Farm’s three-pronged Mission we delight in sharing Food: families gather their vegetable shares or purchase their favorites at the farm stand and market. Our volunteers and patrons also share their experience with their friends and family at the farm, where learning about and preparing new and interesting produce happens. We work and celebrate together with our Community: Individuals and families volunteer with seasonal hands-on help, for special projects, and participating in animal care. Volunteers at the Farm make a significant difference in our operation. Community events are a popular connection for many, with the Farm-to-Fork event to raise awareness and funds for the future, and a Fall Festival to celebrate the harvest and the joys of autumn. Also through Education: Farm-to-School programs with 2nd and 3rd graders growing seedlings at Burke-Memorial School nurtures an early appreciation of biology, nutrition, food production, and new tastes. All 4th graders are beneficiaries of the sustained School-to-Farm program, with four visits in the spring, learning about biology, food, and environmental science. This experience also builds practical farming skills in planning, productivity, and cultivating their own crops for their own farm stand sale day. The students manage all aspects of preparation, marketing, and sales. Our Summer Fun on the Farm and Farmer-in-Training programs, and child and adult workshops are also a resource through MCF education.

Our nine-year journey has provided young students the opportunity to explore interests and discover ideas in agriculture, science, food topics, and environmental studies. Students at every level remark on the farm being their “happy place”, a place of pride and accomplishment, and of tasty food. They love to teach their families and friends about new vegetables
and the importance of caring for the land. And Medway High School students regularly volunteer at MCF, contributing to our community and to the Farm’s success.

Your generosity is vital to help us continue to grow relationships between students, teachers, and Medway Community Farm. Those relationships are the key to a future of sustainable agriculture and a healthy community.

Today, we ask that you consider contributing your support for the first time, or renewing your generous past support so that we can sustain and expand our programs and broaden our community connections. Choose a level below and make a simple, powerful statement for the future. Thank you for your help in making Medway Community Farm’s impact a lasting legacy.

With gratitude,
Don Franzen
Board President
